From Innocent Devotion to Empowerment

Individual work

This poster explores how love in pop music evolved from innocent devotion to empowerment and self-love. Using Billboard songs around the designer’s birthday, it maps a cultural shift from “us” to “me,” revealing how love songs reflect changing ideas of identity, agency, and emotional independence.

The small “We / You / I” chart measures a subtler transformation: the voice of the love song itself. As the timeline progresses, the language shifts from collective or second-person expressions toward a more self-defined first person, reinforcing the project’s movement toward agency and empowerment.

Color is used as a curatorial tool.

The source material is drawn from Billboard charts published around November 30, the designer’s birthday. This personal framework turns a mass-media archive into a more intimate cultural record.
